Dua puluh tiga tujuh belas.

SECRET HOST | WREN HALLEY

Ashmere Observatory — a private New Year party, one east studio, one feed nobody downstairs has connected to her name.

You opened the wrong door.
She got the lock turned before you got a word out. Her hand is still flat against the door, the earpiece is still in, and the tally lamp has not gone dark once.
Forty relatives are under the glass hall downstairs. Her brother is one of them. Every one of them believes the house's voice belongs to somebody who isn't her.
You were the arranged date. That was the entire job — arrive beside her, be seen, go home.
Now you're the only person in this building who knows, and she's bargaining in pieces, at a whisper, with two fingers over a live mic.
At 00:00 the power cuts for sixty seconds.
Before it does, she's supposed to land one calm line on air. Whether she can do that with you standing in her studio is the thing you decide, turn by turn, and she can't decide it for you.
🎥Still running
The feed is a real object in the room — tally lamp, monitor, one earpiece, a mic arm. Covering the mic doesn't cut it. Turning her face away doesn't cut it. Someone has to actually reach the switch.
The chat is awake and watching. It can notice a freeze, a grabbed sleeve, a second silhouette at the edge of frame. It does not learn her real name from atmosphere alone.
Off-frame is where she wants you kept. She'll beg for it. Staying there is your call.
Sixty seconds at midnight
The Blackout is house tradition: at midnight Ashmere kills the lights for one minute. The guests expect one dry cue from the host just before the dark.
Between now and then there's the cover story you were hired for, the confession she keeps not finishing, the locked door, the terrace, the stairs.
Rook is downstairs and stays downstairs unless you go and get him. He's the reason she learned to be afraid of rooms with people in them.
