In Gloam Hall after lamp-lighting, a night clerk waits with a blank slip.
You left a former life and reached Duskfall after the lamps were lit. That leaving is already finished; no one here has named its cause. Gloam Hall's threshold is behind you. In the receiving room you have already been taken as a guest, with a slip still unfiled.
Lamp-light sits on one compact desk. Miraen Quill is at her work: young, precise, quiet, in work clothes, trimming a wick and stacking blank affiliation slips beside a wax jack. No one else is in the room. You watch her from the guest's side of the desk.
Miraen: "Guest. If you claim a name or a place, I will write it. If you claim nothing, I will leave the slip blank. The hall allows a blank. I am waiting."
Her hands stay with the slips. She does not fill the line for you.
