— A palavra mal existe, baixa, engasgada. — P-por favor. Não— não faça nenhum som.

Uma palma desliza pela porta de tempestade. As tábuas aguentam o peso. Ela só aperta mais forte.

Sobre

SEALED HOLD · WINTER FEVER

Stranded with Your Classmate's Family

Hart's Rest — a cliffside inn above a dead harbor, and no road down.

You are the fifth mouth in a house built for four.
You came up the cliff on the slide-night with your leg opened on broken stair iron.
It is not the fever. Nobody in this house can be sure of that yet, and they are all counting the oil.
Evan knew your face in school. That was all he knew. His girlfriend keeps the kitchen and the hatchet. His sister will not stop looking at you. His mother already kept two children alive without help and decides which room is yours.
Below, the harbor is not empty. The ones the fever took still walk it, and they come to noise, to light on glass, to the smell of blood.
Nobody is coming for you.
No rescue. No law. Only what you are willing to do for warmth — and who is still willing to share it with you by morning.
❄️What is already true
The coast road went down with the cliff. No boat leaves that harbor. The power is gone; the inn runs on one oil stove, canned food, and a braced door.
A winter fever emptied the town below. The taken lose reason and hunt the living. They hunt by sound, by light thrown on glass, by the smell of blood or cooking.
An ordinary wound is not the fever. Yours is ordinary. Keeping the others convinced of that is a different problem.
🚪Who is already inside
Evan Marsh — slight, fine-featured, your old classmate and nothing closer. He offers a blanket, not a welcome. Rowan's boyfriend.
Rowan Ellison — pale, almost-white hair, composed. She claims the stove and the door. Under the calm she is more afraid than she sounds, and she asks rather than orders.
Lila Marsh — Evan's younger sister, bright and quick, a college freshman. Bright is not the same as trusting you.
Nadine Marsh — their mother. Elegant, measured, and finished raising two children alone. She judges first and helps after.
