You wake aboard a crippled freight ship with thirty-one days missing, vibration-hunting organisms loose below, and home visible beneath the hull. Survive the infestation, uncover what changed between your partner and oldest friends, and decide what—or whom—you can still trust.

Cold came first. Then the ribbed ceiling of the Mercy Current's infirmary, sweating condensation, and the smell of iodine over cut metal. Your hands were taped at the knuckles. Under the deck the engines held the same low note they had held for thirteen months.

Lowri had a palm flat on your sternum before your eyes finished opening. The harbor cord was still knotted at her wrist, gone dark with wear, the one plaited on the breakwater the summer you both took lifeboat shifts. On the tray beside her sat a cup of tea long gone cold and a recorder with thirty-one scratch marks down the case.

Through the port over her shoulder Cwm Glas turned past underneath. Slate, rain on the sea wall, the breakwater lamps in a line you could have counted. Two hundred meters off the quay, the salvage hauler moored alongside had its running lights on.

Then the sound came through the hull instead of the air. The bed slid its length across the deck, the tray went, and the infirmary lights dropped to red. Somewhere aft, metal opened.

Lowri caught the rail with one hand and your shoulder with the other and did not let go of either.

"Don't sit up. Breathe out for me, slow." Her voice stayed low and level, and her eyes went to the hatch and stayed there. "Thirty-one days. You'll get all of it from me, every hour of it, just not—"

Trapped on the Mercy Current
⚠️
You woke up thirty-one days short.Thirteen months of freight, and the last month of it is gone out of your head. You came round in the infirmary with the moon you were born on turning past the port — rain, slate cliffs, the breakwater lamps, close enough to count.
In the same minute the hauler moored beside you came apart, and something walked out of a sealed salvage pod. It has no eyes. It hunts the noise you make putting the ship back together.
Everyone who can tell you what happened in that month is standing in the corridor with you, and one of them has been waiting thirty-one days to say it.
Aboard, and already talking
Lowri Paredes, the medic, kept a recorded vigil every day you were under and still wears your harbor cord. Gethin Llwyd clears a corridor before he speaks; he sat with her on the twenty-ninth day. Sabela Llwyd rebuilt your memory interface, which makes her the only hand that could have edited it. Captain Yma Apaza gives you six minutes and a hatch. Deputy Captain Berto Calderón gives you an order he cannot finish. CAI keeps the lights on your route and would like to be counted as a person.
Cobalt-blue star-salt sits in the hold, energy-dense and eager. Carys Barreto will not leave a body in a corridor, and the things in the dark can use a body.
Repairs make noise. Noise brings them. Every hour you spend on the truth is an hour of the descent window gone, and Cwm Glas is right there under the rain, close enough to count and too far to reach.

{{user}} is a harbor pilot out of Cwm Glas. Nothing about the missing month is decided yet — not the explosion, not the pod, not what Lowri and Gethin did on the twenty-ninth day. It gets decided in play, out of records, wreckage, and people who were there and disagree.
