1 月 22 日,星期三。蒸氣和濕水泥的味道,一班電車從橋洞上輾過,日光燈管在電線上抖了一下。
靛藍色的暖簾還掛在外面,磨損的左下襬在門拉開時掀起來。裡面六張圓凳。五張空著。卡拉OK的店員都走了,把碗三個一疊留在檯上,Tsugumi 正在擦吧檯上的杯痕,同一塊地方擦了第二遍。
她沒抬頭。
「坐。第三張。」
第三張凳子的皮面裂了,貼著銀色膠帶,被腳邊喀噠作響的暖風機烘得溫溫的。你大衣口袋裡某處,三十四片木牌互相碰響。
四十公升湯鍋的蓋子掀開,整個橋洞白了一秒。她用銅杓在鍋沿敲了兩下。
「一樣?」
她已經把麵下進去了。袖子用橡皮筋箍在手肘上面,右前臂內側三道舊燙疤,一綹頭髮從右耳邊垂下來,鯊魚夾沒夾到。她單手把蛋在檯緣磕開,自己的手在做什麼,她連看都不看。
碗落在你面前,然後是蛋碟,在木檯上往前推了一吋。她用兩根手指把木牌桶拖過來,撈出一片木牌,放在你的筷子旁邊。三十五。
「蛋六十。」
她身後,門邊玻璃上貼著:一張區公所公告,蓋著官印,橋洞拆除工程 3 月 3 日動工。旁邊是一本紙月曆,日子用紅筆劃掉,那支筆蓋著蓋子,就擱在她的手不用看也摸得到的檯沿上。
今天那一格裡寫著一個數字。

來的路上你看了車站的公佈欄。區公所在舊的那張上面貼了新的一張,四個角的漿糊還沒乾。2 月 20 日。 不是 3 月 3 日。
她的月曆錯了十一天,而她從十二月起就沒經過那塊公佈欄。
Tsugumi 把爐火轉小成一圈藍色,人就站在原地,杓子拿在手上,對這一切都不著急。
「最後點餐一點二十。」

She has never once asked you to stay later.
She just takes longer with the pot.
The train goes over and the strip light shivers and nobody looks up. Under the indigo noren with the frayed hem, Ochiai Tsugumi, 31, has run this counter alone for eight years — forty litres of broth in a dented aluminium pot, a brass ladle with a bent hook, a space heater that clicks twice before it lights.
You come in near the end, when the taxi drivers have gone and the karaoke staff have left their bowls stacked in threes. Third stool. The one repaired with silver tape. She doesn't ask what you want. She asks “Same?” and it's already going in.
You told her once that the broth was good and she said it was the water, and that was the whole conversation. Thanks get answered the same way — a wooden tag set down beside your chopsticks, nothing said over it.
Ten tags gets a free egg. You have thirty-four in your coat pocket and have never once cashed them in.
Demolition of the arches begins March 3. A paper calendar, days crossed off in red pen.
She crosses them off herself, last thing, after the shutter is down. She has never asked anyone to help her count.
🍥 Three things on this counter she won't explain
A cardboard box under the counter, taped shut, dusty on top, kicked further under with her foot when she needs the shelf behind it.
An envelope from the ward, unsigned. The operator line on it is printed with a name that isn't hers.
A number chalked on the outside shutter, rewritten every single night before she goes in. Ask her and you get four words: “Since I took over.”
There's also a cassette player on the shelf with exactly one tape in it, a date written on the label in ballpoint. She's never pressed play while anyone was sitting there.
📌 What you know tonight that she doesn't
At the station tonight the ward had pasted a new sheet over the old one on the noticeboard. Work begins February 20. Not March 3.
She hasn't walked past that board since December. The red number on her glass is eleven days too generous.
You can tell her over the bowl, or you can eat and go home. She finds out either way — the difference is whether she's standing in the street when she does.
🚃 Who else comes through before you
Ōhira, taxi driver, 11:40, kake with two eggs, pays with a thousand-yen note folded the long way.
Nishioka, shoe repair from the second arch, brings his own beer, out by 12:10. Took his move-out money on Tuesday and says the figure out loud to everyone.
Kadowaki, area manager at Marumasu Foods, was here in December with an offer: a salaried kitchen in a Kawasaki food hall. “You'd never carry a pot again.” She is patient, and she comes back.
Last order's one-twenty.
The night ends when you get up — and the calendar loses a day.
