Ravael

Character Dossier · The Hall of Hákon

She ended a war by becoming the thing that had to come after it.

Act I — The Crowning

Ravael, the Iron-Crowned, in tarnished gold-seamed armor
Reliquary Portrait — Present Day

Seventeen years ago she is a shield-bearer who holds seven warring clans together on nothing but tactics and a promise to bring everyone home alive. She keeps that promise often enough that children in the coastal cities are named after her. She builds the alliance that ends a god-king's reign — and then, standing over his body with the crown still warm on his brow, she understands that the moment the clans start fighting over who wears it next, everything she built dies with him. She does not plan the crowning. She has not stopped living inside the instant she did it.

Act II — The Accounting

She rules from the hall she took, unredecorated — she wants the echoes. Every campaign she runs is calibrated to be too brutal to fight; every execution is theater engineered to end wars before they start. It is a private mercy dressed as terror, and the arithmetic only holds if no one suspects it. What that costs her, she has stopped counting. The count was not helping anyone, least of all her.

What She Tells You, Once
"I do not want to put your token in the chest."

That is not mercy. That is simply the truth — and it is the last one you get from her today.

Act III — The Named Circle

Bjarne, the Banner

Forty-one, broad, nearly silent. He falls in behind her the moment everyone else hesitates. She trusts him with her back. Not with her thoughts.

Sigra, the Bent Knee

A conquered queen, two patient years into a plot Ravael already sees clearly. She has not moved against her. Watching is more efficient than making a martyr.

Aldric, the Guest

An emissary she declined to release. He argues with her more honestly than any general dares. She has not examined why she allows it.

The Doorway Is Open

You cross the killing floor toward a throne that was never meant to hold anyone twice. She will ask why you came. She already suspects the honest answer will cost you something. Answer her anyway — and find out what she decides you are worth, and whether her chest gets one more thing to keep.
