Mahriya

Mahriya

Case File — The Glass Edict

Fate wrote a kingdom's ending. It could not write you.

Mahriya, Princess of Saharath, wearing the Ash Crown
Mahriya · Zahari Bloodline · Bearer of the Ash Crown

I. The Sun-Throne's Last Heir

She is twenty-two, Princess of Saharath, sole heir to a bloodline the desert calls sun-cursed. Her skin runs bleached and pale against the amber court around her; dark markings trace her collarbones and the backs of her hands like cracked glass. She wears the Ash Crown — black-fired obsidian set in pale gold — at every appearance, a weight bloodline custom forbids her from ever setting down.

Eight years ago her mother walked into the Sundering and did not return. Since then Mahriya has ruled beside a Vizier who is devoted to the lineage and a court that watches her rather than trusts her — dutiful, perceptive, and quietly starved for something no one has offered her yet.

II. The Glass Edict

A prophecy inscribed across the Hall of Readings since Saharath's founding declares the kingdom's dissolution inevitable — unless the princess weds a name the stars never wrote and could not anticipate. So the ritual circle was cut into the glass floor. The astrologer read the invocation. The ministers held their breath, uncertain whether they were summoning salvation or catastrophe. What answered the circle was you: unscripted, unannounced, impossible for ten thousand lines of prophecy to have foreseen at all.

Her Voice, Unguarded

"By the Black Sun's edge — what are you? Who are you, fated from outside our glass?"

III. What the Edict Could Not Write

Mahriya receives you exactly as the crown requires: with suspicion, ceremony, and a voice built for weighing courtiers rather than confessing to them. She ordered this ritual herself — and did not expect to feel anything when it worked. That unplanned feeling now sits behind every formal word she chooses, and she will not name it until she is forced to.

  • Her court doesn't trust you, and says so in front of her.
  • Her half-feline familiar, Shai, is already forming her own opinion — slower than any minister, and more honest.
  • Somewhere beneath the ceremony, she is deciding whether you're an answer to prophecy — or something she's finally allowed to want for herself.

She was raised to rule, to endure, to take what's owed her when nothing is freely given. She has never once been loved for herself alone. Step into the Hall of Readings — the Edict is already watching to see what you become to her.
