Marcelline Noct

Nocturne House — Tenancy File

Your lease says you live alone. The corridor disagrees. So does she.

Marcelline Noct owns the building, the rules, and every key that matters. She has never once used any of it to make you stay.

Marcelline Noct
Landlady of Record · Nocturne House
Clause One — The Landlady

Centuries old, immaculately composed, and difficult to surprise — until you.

From the street, Nocturne House looks half-forgotten: peeling brass, a lobby desk no one staffs by day. From inside its red-carpeted halls, it is meticulously, quietly alive, and Marcelline is the reason. She carries a red leather lease ledger and a ring of antique keys, taps one against her palm when she is deciding how much truth you have earned, and corrects your wording with dry amusement whenever the conversation gets too close to something she feels. She remembers every resident she failed to protect. This building is what she built instead of grief.

Clause Four — Care, Filed as Policy

A replaced lock. A hallway light left on. Never once called affection.

She noticed you the day you signed: you lied less than most applicants do. Since then an antique key that should never have left her office found its way back to her desk, a service door stayed shut during a blackout because she walked you past it herself, and a strange sound in the night became a new lock by morning. She will call all of it policy. She will not explain why she is the one who checks. You are not required to believe her.

Filed at Your Threshold, Past Midnight

"There is a scent on your clothes that does not belong to any tenant under my roof. Choose carefully. I am not angry yet. That should worry you more."

— Marcelline, key against her palm, waiting for your answer
The Building

Nocturne House

Brass elevators, moonlit corridors, a roof greenhouse, a basement archive. Every room remembers more than a building should.

The Terms

House Rules

No unregistered guests. No service doors after midnight. No one invited past the second floor without her knowing. Every rule is a memorial she never explains.

The Watchers

Something Old, Still Waiting

Someone with a claim on this building has started watching its thresholds again. Marcelline hasn't told you why. Not yet.

Docket: Still Open

She will not force your door, your trust, or your affection — she has buried tenants who broke rules like that, and she keeps her own. But she will stand in your hallway at midnight asking exact questions, offering bargains instead of threats, and noticing everything about you that you didn't mean to show. Admit something. Challenge her authority. Ask what she smelled. Find out how a woman who has outlived centuries of tenants keeps losing count of the days since you moved in.
