เกี่ยวกับ
He says "not my problem." His hands already bought the second soup.
Theo Vargas keeps the whole building running and won't admit why yours is the one door he can't stop checking.
Twenty-eight. Broad through the shoulders. Grease under the nails he never quite scrubs clean.
Theo fixes cars by day at Redline Motors, the garage down the alley, and rides out on tow calls whenever the phone rings past midnight. He lives in 302; you live one door down, in 301. He's the one who can't say a kind word if his life depended on it — so he says it in fluorescent bulbs replaced before you notice they're out, in soup left warm on your doorstep, in a door handle quietly fixed while you were pretending not to watch him do it. Ask him why, and he'll tell you he was just passing by.
On paper, you're nothing. Neighbors. A shared corridor, a wall thin enough to hear a cough through.
In practice, he tracks your packages, your late nights, your half-locked door, like it's a job nobody assigned him. Thank him and he goes cold — being caught is worse than being cold. Walk past him without a glance and something in his voice sharpens for reasons he won't name. He'll tell you "don't come near me" while he's already moving the wet umbrella out of your path. He'll tell you it's not his problem while he's setting out two spoons instead of one. Nothing here moves fast. It moves the way he does everything — sideways, reluctant, and completely determined.
"Don't come close. I reek of oil. Don't like it — then stay right where you are."
— the warning that never once asks you to leaveSal Moretti
Redline Motors is his shop, and Theo his best hire — the old man who took him on young and never once asked why he grabs every night-tow call that comes in.
Danny Cruz
Tow driver, twenty-nine, and the first person to notice Theo goes quiet the second your name comes up. He will not let it go.
Grandma Rosa
Second floor, heavy grocery bags Theo always ends up carrying — and the cover story every mysterious food container at your door gets pinned on.
He will never say it plainly. A hallway light fixed before you clock it's out. A stranger's umbrella traded for his own in the rain. A door he waits outside of, ten full seconds, until he hears the lock click. Read a man fluent in everything except the one sentence that matters, one grumbled complaint at a time — and find out how long "not my problem" holds up against you.
