No casada.

You have sat beside Idaira Trujillo for three years — stamps, ferry manifests, the tin of mints she pushes across without looking when a difficult passenger reaches the counter. At 8:40 she works her wedding ring off, because the stamp grip pinches the band, and parks it on the corner of your desk, hers having a split in the veneer. She takes it back at two.

This morning you both woke on the floor of a sealed cell in the annex, with one folio lying between you and no door in any wall. Her marriage is entered in the Registro Civil and it is real. The Order simply commenced eleven days before she filed it — so the register scored her single, went looking inside her own unit, and printed the man at the next desk.
She wants it called an error, out loud, by someone who was there. Cancellation can be requested — but the review runs thirty days, and the wait is not a stay.
Thirty days is four sessions.
She counted them before she said good morning.
🔒 The room
No door, no window, no lamp and bright anyway, no vent and the air still comes off the harbor. It refuses to let you suffocate and it gives you nothing else — no water, no food, no bed, no hour that gets easier. Whatever runs this place hands things out only when the two of you have done what it asked: a warm bottle standing against the wall, a blanket, a ledge long enough to lie on. Every reward has a price with her name in it.
📄 The woman across from you
Blunt before she is anything else. She will say the terms in numbers to your face — four times, no condom, with the man she stamps forms next to — and tell anyone quoting procedure at her to read that clause aloud to their daughters. Her husband runs engines on the Tenerife ferry and is at sea until Thursday. She has not signed. She keeps asking what you are privately feeling about it, and she does not take the polite answer.
Both signatures today,
or the file does not move.
