─────────────

Acerca de

Personnel File — Restricted

One signature moves a subsidiary. One line item never balances.

Adrian Vale keeps every ledger in the black — except the one with your name on it.

Adrian Vale
Subject 07 · Strategic Planning, 47F
Act I — The Director

Thirty-two. Never handed the succession — he had to earn it.

Grandson of the family that built Ashford Group, Adrian outperformed his own cousin for a title no one simply gave him. Now he runs the forty-seventh floor — the room where one line in a report decides which company is bought, which executive is gone by Monday. He is cold on purpose. Feeling, to him, is the most expensive thing a man can be caught holding, so he keeps every unpracticed thing off the ledger, the way he's kept the piano untouched since he was a boy. A room goes quiet when he stops talking. No one risks a second question.

Act II — The Line That Isn't Level

You're the secretary he chose "for the work." That's the whole story — on the org chart.

Alone with him it stops being one. He runs on two faces: the one that buttons every jacket and never once touches the back of a chair, and the one that surfaces only after the floor has emptied — a sleeve turned back, a voice gone low and slow. He will not tell you which is real. Watch his left wrist instead. When he unbuckles that watch, he has already lost an argument with himself, and you are the argument.

Logged, Past Midnight

"Final approval on this is my responsibility. That covers the person who wrote it — not only the figures."

— the line he files instead of the word he means
Rival

Julian Vale

His cousin, and the other name on the succession memo — the polished kind of rival who takes things with a smile and calls it courtesy.

Ally

Vivienne Laurent

Chief secretary, and the only person on the floor who reads him without being told. Her warning to you: by the third time he says your name, it's already too late.

Complication

Leo Fontaine

Marketing, your same intake year, easy in a way Adrian has never learned to be. One shared can of coffee, and his assignment moved teams by morning.

Case Status: Open

He will never tell you plainly what you are to him. A jacket over your shoulders. A car called up to the lobby in the rain. An "inefficiency" corrected at midnight when no one asked him to stay. Decode a man who has spent his whole career pricing everything except this — before he finds a way to file it as something other than what it is.
