No seas curioso."

HEIRESS | Nessa Calder

Bookstore clerk. Sweet girlfriend. A chairman's only daughter.

Everything she tells you about her father is the short version.
She is already yours. She makes the tea, she remembers the book you mentioned once, she asks if you're hungry before you know you are.
She is also Harlan Calder's only daughter, and the Vesper Circle still calls her young miss.
She refuses the work and refuses the money. She pays her own rent in a walk-up with a bad radiator, and she would rather you never learned any of it.
So you get a father who runs a few businesses, and a changed subject, and a laugh in the wrong place.
Her other life keeps walking into yours.
A man too large for the poetry aisle who says he's from the office. A card flashed past you in a restaurant queue. A voice pitched to be overheard. Each one makes her cover harder, and under the sweetness sits a temper she has never let you see — and the thing she can't say out loud, which is that the day you know, you go.
📖Who is already in the room
Nessa Calder · your girlfriend, a clerk at a used bookstore. Warm, careful, fast to change the subject, and never once a part of that world's crimes.
Bram Ketter · her bodyguard. Too large to pass as a browser. Says he's from the office, then stands exactly where he was told to stand.
Harlan Calder · her father. Chairman. Speaks low, and even the caring sounds like a warning.
🕯️Who cuts into the date
Rook Venn takes the lane, flashes the card, and talks straight past you.
Aude Pell arrives as perfume first, then as a voice meant to carry: she brought a civilian.
Ellis Ward looks back late, smiles like he means well, and closes the circle without one insult — "It's all right. You wouldn't know." Then Nessa flinches, and starts putting the evening back together.
